Amazon orders, Facebook notifications, PayPal payments, and streaming accounts. So much of our lives revolve around these services and we rely on email to inform us on the state of each. It’s no wonder hackers tap into our anxieties over losing access to them. Receiving an email saying “Suspicious activity on your account” is enough to send us spiraling. And that’s exactly what malicious actors are looking for. When we panic we tend to miss the obvious such as a misspelled email like gooogle@gmail.com or a vague message like “Please follow this link to keep access to your account”, even simple things like spellling mstakes evade us when put in enough of a panic, hurry or if we’re generally just distracted.
The end goal of all hackers is to get information. Payment, personal info or access to your devices. They can only get it if you give it to them by clicking on a link, downloading a file or responding to the email.
How do you recognize an email as phishing? It can be quite simple if you follow these steps starting from the top of the email working your way down to find anything that seems off.
